The Cancer Society’s helping hands in Trondheim, Ålesund and Sandefjord

The volunteers at the Cancer Society offer practical help around the home and garden, transport assistance and someone to talk to.

Cancer can drain your body of energy, and ordinary tasks can become a chore. It is normal to need extra help when you become ill, but many people find it difficult to ask for and accept help. Our volunteers want to help you.

The volunteers at the Cancer Society’s Helping Hands can help you with practical tasks, transport and someone to talk to, enabling you to use your energy for the things that matter.

The service is for cancer patients, their relatives or those experiencing bereavement, and it is completely free.

We offer help for six months, with the possibility of an extension depending on demand and capacity.

Don’t live in Trondheim, Ålesund or Sandefjord? Please see our website for our Transport Service, Helping Hands and Patient Navigator for information on the services that are available where you live.

We can help you with

Practical help

Our volunteers can provide practical assistance around your house and garden. You will agree on a time that suits you both. The practical help visit lasts up to two hours and volunteers can come once a month.

Transport

Our volunteers offer accompaniment and transport to appointments linked to cancer (e.g. to the hospital, GP, rehab centre, Vardesenter). The volunteer will pick you up from your home and take you where you need to go.

Someone to talk to

Our volunteers are there for you and can join you for a walk, meet you at a café or come and visit you at home. You and your volunteer will find a time that is right for you both. Our volunteers are great listeners and are keen to get to know you.
